Clinical Use
Lorazepam is used in the following pediatric applications:
- Anxiety: short-term relief of anxiety symptoms or anxiety associated with depressive symptoms
- Sleep disorders

Dosage and Administration Guidelines
Anxiety:
- Children ≥12 years:

Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting:
- Anticipatory: 0.04-0.08 mg/kg/dose orally (maximum dose 2 mg/dose); administer one dose the night before chemotherapy and another the following day prior to chemotherapy administration.
- As needed: 0.025-0.05 mg/kg/dose intravenously every 6 hours as needed. Maximum dose: 2 mg/dose.
Sedation:
- Neonates: 0.05-0.1 mg/kg/dose intravenously every 4-6 hours.
- Children and adolescents (pre-procedure sedation): 0.05 mg/kg (0.02-0.09 mg/kg) orally. In adults, the maximum dose is 4 mg/dose.
Status epilepticus:
- Neonates: 0.05-0.1 mg/kg/dose intravenously; slow administration (1-5 min). The dose may be repeated after 5-10 minutes.
- Children and adolescents: 0.1 mg/kg/dose intravenously; slow administration (1-5 min). The dose may be repeated after 5-10 minutes. Maximum dose of 4 mg/dose.
Dose adjustment in special situations:
- Reduce dose in patients with mild-to-moderate hepatic impairment and administer with caution to patients with hypoalbuminemia or renal insufficiency.
- When using lorazepam in patients with mild to moderate hepatic or renal impairment, the lowest effective dose should be considered, as the drug’s effect may be prolonged. Periodic blood tests and liver function tests should be performed with prolonged use.
Administration:
- The dose should be increased gradually to avoid adverse effects.
- The tablets can be diluted in water for administration via nasogastric tube or gastrostomy.
- When a higher dose is indicated, the evening dose should be increased before the daytime doses.
Lorazepam 2mg Side Effects
